Zinzatzir

Zinzatzir (ZIN-zat-ZURR)
Roughly five feet in height, these insect-like beings are covered in shiny black exoskeletons. They resemble long-necked crosses of ants and spiders, a combination repulsive to most humans.
The Zinzatzir have ten limbs. Four of these limbs are arms, and six are legs. The hands of the Zinzatzir have three fingers, each of which can move independently from the rest. Their legs distribute their weight evenly, allowing them to cross almost any type of terrain rather quickly.
The mouths of the Zinzatzir are comprised of two spiny mandibles and a large orifice full of grinding teeth, located on the underside of their curved heads. Their four eyes are covered by protective black lenses. The two brightly colored antennae on the Zinzatzir face contain olfactory sensors, and are also sensitive to vibrations in the air, allowing them to act as ears.
The two fins on the Zinzatzir abdomen are holdovers from their cold-blooded ancestors; they were used to gather heat from the morning sun and give the Zinzatzir energy. They are now vestigial.
The Zinzatzir are descended from eusocial creatures reminiscent of Earth's termites. They had a wide variety of specialized castes, all wildly different in appearance, and were all sterile but for a single queen. Modern-day Zinzatzir are all capable of reproduction, but they are still divided into regimented social castes - laborers, soldiers, artisans, caretakers, and others. Strong collectivist values are preached in Zinzatzir society - they believe that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the individual. Zinzatzir are also taught to repress their emotions, as emotions would be detrimental to an efficient society.
The Zinzatzir are more technologically advanced than humans by several hundred years. Permanent colonies have been established on the moon of the Zinzatzir home world, known as Palxin, and unmanned Zinzatzir probes have been sent out to explore the rest of their solar system. A Zinzatzir known as Rilkanzinkir is one of the captives on the Votai Ark.
